I did a solo trip to Cockatoo Island on Saturday. Staying with my son Ben and his wife Phoebe at Neutral Bay the wharf is not too far away. I was on a mission having immersed myself in a new book on drawing. New method, new thinking, love it.

So the plan was to be nonstop drawing … from the time I got on the first ferry till arrival back at Neutral Bay.

pencil drawings

On the way to Cockatoo Island … and then there

Materials were kept simple … one 5B .7mm Avery fat tech pencil on Moleskin with sort of yellowing pages … not sure what they call it.

After completing a little session at the Slipway area (North West) I went up to the top level, sat on an old stone wall and proceed to strip off layer after layer of clothing as the weather was clear and warm … and sketched some more:

Old Stone building top level then the trip home

You’ll notice some heavier lines … this is all part of the method, the envelope.

More on that tomorrow

Blue Chair and people on the beach

Warm day here and first fish of the season arriving today … they like worms. Flathead.

Which has got nothing to do with this Blue chair … That Blue Chair actually. So I went back down to the beach and caught the natives next to That chair … Good surf too with stiff NE breeze. Go the cricket.

Cold day here. Southerly and ugg boots on … mid summer. Weird. So I sat inside and drew thru the glass. Muddy colours and it is a muddy day.

Sorry the previous post had a fault in it … we’ll see how this goes.

1st for 2013 is hopefully the first of 365 continuous postings … fingers crossed.

Summer is almost here although the water temp has stayed low for longer than usual.

Here’s one sketch I did of Mollymook Beach today. This corner of the world continually intrigues me… cold in winter … ideal in Summer.

pen and wash in Sepia of lane way

Somewhere in Italy

Having always wanted to make a sketch from this pic I took some years back, today was the ideal opportunity because I dont know how to draw rain thats going sideways. There are a million lane ways like this throughout Italy. If you take the photo it will bring back memories. If you then do a sketch you can almost smell the air. Almost. Sepia wash on Moleskin.
